Creeping Cat

Thanks to those of you who have tried to identify the cat.
It is not Scarface Claw or Slinky Malinky, but it is a "New Zealand" cat. Try again.

Best Junior Borrowers

These children are the best borrowers in the Junior School (excluding R6). They have borrowed more than 20 books so far this year. They are good at remembering to return their books each week, with their book bag. They have each been awarded with a "Book It" badge. Maybe you will see them wearing their badge at school.
Well Done!!
R1 Christiane
R2 Aidan, Jerome, Rodney and Ashane
R5 Ciaran, Juwon and You Seok

Sunnybrae Library's Best Borrowers

On Access It (our library database) it is possible to follow the books borrowed by each borrower.
These children were presented with a new book for being the most prolific borrowers in our school - reliably returning their books on time, and borrowing again using their book bags.
Seniors - Jack Liu 75 books, Jasmine Hibbert 73 books, Jenny Shin 68 books.
Middles - Georgia Knowles 45 books, Yewon Jung, Nina Lis and Sian St.Clair 40 books.
Juniors - Meleseini Tuinukuafe and Linda Wang 24 books, Bernard Lee 23 books.

Who are our best borrowers?

There are 3 weeks to go until the term's end. At our final assembly for the term, our school's "Best Borrowers" will be announced. There is a book prize for the pupil who has borrowed the most books so far this year, one from each syndicate. The next best borrowers will receive a "Book It" badge, to indicate their "one of the best borrowers" status in our library.
Who will be the best?
Do you think you may have a good chance?

Sunnybrae's Library Olympics

Our library is dressed up to celebrate the Olympics, so we decided to compete in our own "Library Olympics".
18 year 5 and 6 student librarians entered a qualification round to see who would be the fastest to find 3 books from our library.
From the qualification round the 8 competitors who finished under 4 minutes went on to the finals, to compete for the medals.
In this round the students had to issue and return several books, and then locate 3 more using Access It to help them locate the items.
The tasks took longer than Mrs Sutherland had anticipated and we ran out of time without having a winner.
Amy R11, TJ R12 and Emma R10 completed the most tasks and so were through to the medal round.
The 3 girls had to find 3 books, issue them, return them and finally shelve them correctly.
TJ won the Gold Medal, completing the tasks in just under 5 minutes. Emma finished 10 seconds later and won the Silver medal. Amy received the bronze medal.

Celebrate the 2008 Olympic Games

To celebrate the Olympic Games, which are soon to begin, our Library has been decorated with flags from various nations as well as an Olympic flag, on loan from Mr Eric Verdonk.
Eric Verdonk has represented New Zealand as a single sculler, winning a bronze in one of the Olympic Games. His son, Hugo is in our senior school.
There is also a display of newspaper articles on New Zealand competitors, Olympic related books and information on the Beijing Olympics.
Senior students have entered the "Library Olympics" and are being timed to search for books in our library. The quickest will compete in the finals next week.

Welcome to Term 2 in the Library

As we are now in our winter term, you may play games from our games cupboard. These must be played quietly and they must be played on one of the library tables. Tidy the game up yourself when it is time to go.
Later this term we will have a Rummikub competition for Year 4 to Year 6 children.

Library Review 08

We are currently in the process of completing the Sunnybrae Library Review. Today we completed Sunnybrae's first online survey with a group of students. The children really enjoyed completing a digital survey. We would like to thank Fiona Grant for helping us to put the survey online. The results of the survey will be shared in an upcoming post.

Welcome to Sunnybrae's First Ever Library Blog

The Sunnybrae Library and Information Centre offers a wide variety of resources and activities for the students, staff and parents at our school. Our blog will share library news, information about new resources, book reviews, messages from our student librarians and that's just a start!

If you have any new ideas for making our library an even better place or want to recommend new books for us to buy then this is the place to do it, please make a comment.
